BALA

March 31st, 2007

When I was young I have read in Chandamama stories about Bharavi( Hope I have remembered the name correctly) He was a great student. But his father never praised him. He became frustrated and wanted to kill his father because his father did not say a single word praising him even though he did well before the great dignitaries. He came home and was hiding in the attic, and listened his father saying to his mother how proud he was of their son. His mother enquired the father , then how come he always says to Bharavi to improve more without a single word of praise. His father answered that as Parents they were not supposed to praise their own children and by praising they would be hampering their improvement in life. Then Bharavi realized and asked pardon of his Father.

Till my parents generation it was the same thought process of all the parents. They never said a good word when we achieved some thing good in school.

But with us it is different. We think while saying few good words to our kids we encourage them to do better. I always have a good word for my kids. Whatever they do is the best thing in my eyes.

We have a saying in Telugu. Kaki Pilla Kaki ki Muddu. The meaning is even the crow thinks her kid is the beautiful thing in the world.

So with the generation the thought process changes . I feel praising our kids is the happiest thing in this world. We must be strict with them , we must guide them properly and also we must praise them and encourage them with few good words. By showering our love on them we must make them confident . It is parents responsibility to make them realize that committing mistakes is not a wrong thing but they should not repeat the mistakes… And this we can do with love and affection and few good words.

Our parents thought Parents were not supposed to praise their kids. But we think we must be strict when necessary and we must praise them and encourage them with love and affection along with praising them.
So what do you think?

An Incident in Rajaji’s Life:

March 31st, 2007

 An Incident in Rajaji’s Life:
It was 1942.Rajaji was travelling with Mahatma Gandhi in South India. They took the train to TRichy which was leaving at sunset.
There was so much crowd in each and every level crossing..note level crossings..there was inordinate delay.
Mahatma Gandhi was a bit impatient and asked Rajaji “why these people are holding the train just in the name of  Gandhi.”
Rajaji being a frank man from birth to death said :
“Gandhiji,if you think this entire stoppage in every level crossing is just to see you,you are sadly mistaken. There is a very great actor called M.K.Thiagaraja Bagavadar who is also travelling with us in the next compartment. They are all holding the train just to see him!”

—Two new studies suggest that planet formation around multiple star systems may be more common than previously thought.

The findings were presented here at the 207th meeting of the American Astronomical Society.

One study, lead by doctoral student Deepak Raghavan from Georgia State University, confirmed that 29 planet-harboring star systems also contained a second star; three actually had two companions and were triple star systems.

Raghavan and his team combed through archived star data to identify 131 star systems with planets that scientists had previously suspected of having companion stars. They then used telescopes at the Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory in to confirm the results and to also look for new systems with multiple stars.

The group found one previously unknown stellar companion around HD 38529, a star known to have planets but until now was thought to be a single star system.

Computer agrees

Theorists have long wondered if such setups could occur, given the complex gravitational situations involved.

But in a separate new computer modeling effort, Alan Boss at Carnegie Institution’s Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) and colleagues determined that gas-giant planets like Jupiter can indeed form in binary star systems in much the same way that planets form around single stars such as the Sun.

“We tend to focus on looking for other solar systems around stars just like our Sun,” Boss said. “But we are learning that planetary systems can be found around all sorts of stars.”

It was once thought that the strong gravitational forces from stars in double star systems interfered with each other’s ability to form planets.

But the new theoretical model by Boss’ team shows that if the gravitational force from one star in a double star system is weaker than the other, then gas-giant planets can form in much the same way as they do around single stars.

In these theoretical systems, the whirling disks of dust and gas that form the starting material for planets could remain cool enough to grow into solid cores and form gas planets with masses thousands of times that of Earth.

In this line of thinking, the planet-forming disk condenses into dense spiral arms, within which the dust and gas clump together to eventually form planets. The process is believed to require less than 1,000 years—much shorter than previously thought by many astronomers, though Boss has for years now been modeling similar brief time spans for giant planet formation around single stars.

Other Earths?

The model also suggests that there would be plenty of room for Earth-like planets to form close to the central star after the gas giants finished developing.

“This result may have profound implications in that it increases the likelihood of the formation of planetary systems resembling our own,” Boss said.

That’s because binary star systems tend to be rule rather than the exception in our galaxy. It’s estimated that up to two out of every three stars in the Milky Way are part of multiple star systems, many of them binary. If such systems can shelter both outer gas giant planets as well as inner Earth-like planets, then the odds of finding habitable planet in distant star systems would be increased by roughly threefold.

The team’s findings will also be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Astrophysical Journal.

INDIA

March 31st, 2007

Future Historians of the Indian republic will regard 1992 as one of the saddest years in the history of our jurisprudence” wrote Nani Palkhiwala after a majority decision by the Supreme Court in the Mandal Commission case.Today Nani Palkhiwala must be laughing at VPSingh and Arjun Singh as this is what he wrote in his book.. “We,the Nation..the LostDeacdes”

“Over the last 1000 yrs ,the greatest curse which had afflicted the Indian Nation had been the curse of casteism,as JusticeKuldip Singh has pointed out in his minority judgement.Historians are agreed that the reason why foreign invaders -the Afghans, the Turks, the Moghuls-succeeded in subjugating this country was becasue casteism divided Indian society and assigned military duties to One caste Only..
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar was luckily the Chairman of the Drafting committee of Free India’s republican constitution. He assured that caste would be anathema to our noble constitution and strove single handedly to bring about social integration of India.
In Dr.Ambedkar’s own words ,
“Fraternity means a sense of common brotherhood for all Indians-of Indians being one People…Castes are anti-national:in the first place they bring about seperation of social life. They are anti-national also because they generate jealousy and antipathy between caste and caste. But we must overcome all these difficulties if we wish to become a nation in reality. For fraternity can be a fact only when there is a nation.Without Fraternity, equality and liberty will be no deeper than coats of Paint.”

Nani wrote in 1992:”afterceleberating the centenary ofDr.Ambedkar’s birthday only last year,we have now impaired and desecrated his greatest monument-the Constitution of India”
Nani must be Happy Today ,now in his grave laughing at all Singhs!
Sathyameva Jayathe!
Long live Nani!
