Mumbai and Me

Mumbai

Mumbai and Me

Mumbai is like a sea
When road pulsates
you can experience
the waves

Mumbai’s mornings are immaculate

The gateway of India

heart of Mumbai

gives the feeling of

an official entry

Stand facing at the Taj

you will feel the heritage of the city

Stroll through Malabar Hill,

Hanging Garden, Napean Sea Road,

Carter road and Colaba Causeway

in the chilly mornings of

November and December

to experience the energy

flowing through your nerves

Go to linking road

to get a feel of the crowd

and shop till you drop

at Center One and Inorbit malls

Pray at Siddivinayak temple

Mahalaxmi temple

Haji ali dharga

Iskon temple and

Mount Mary church

to renew your faith

Go to Prithvi Theatre, NCPA

Jehangir Art Gallery

to see the surviving art

Venture through Kalaghoda

and Fort for

Gothic architecture

Go on a trekking to

Elephenta Caves

during monsoon

to get a marvelous feeling

In Chowpathy and Juhu Beaches

feel the taste of

Mumbai’s authentic cuisine

Vada pav, Pani puri

Pav bhaji and Gola

For the splendor of ocean

walk through the Marine Drive

and Bandstand

sit at the seashore and

look at the beautiful night sky

The booming nightlife of the city

lies in Olive, Indigo

Fire & Ice, Enigma, Rock bottom,

Insomnia and Polly Esther’s

Venture through the bunglows

of Bollywood stars like

Sharukh, Amitabh and Rekha

to pray for a glimpse

To experience the Mumbaiyaa madness

plunge into Essel World and Water Kingdom

and have fun.

Watch the spectacular view

of the Queen’s necklace

in late night

City never sleeps
not even for a moment
you can see the sleeplessness
in the dooming sky

I love to be with the fast life

But where the hurry

and alertness is taking us!

I miss the moments of

walking on the streets

there is always a scare

about a possible run over

Where the weariness, narrowness and

paranoia is taking us

Seasons come and go
like the rolling pages of a calendar
like a train crossing the tunnel
but the hunger for the invincible
still remains……

Among the thousands of
heads showing up
on the streets
you are also there
tired, exhausted, dilapidated
to dream the invincible
to keep alive the struggle

Beyond the unending streets
there is always a dream
a dream which has an unending promise

In the maddening swelling crowd
who you are searching for
unknowingly?
May be your conscience!

I stay in Bangalore. I had been to Mumbai once and when I asked the locals what places to visit, I didn’t get the same passion to visit places as it comes out in your poem.

In particular, I am find mention of Jehangir Art Gallery and Prithvi Theatre.
