Neighbourhood
The moral on neighbourhood
which I tried to inculcate
when I was a child
was of Jesus Christ
He said
Love your neighbours as yourself
Neighbours emerged
and vanished
on regular intervals
like change of seasons
Splintered by
divergence of income
they have divided
themselves as invisible
Did we choose to live
in a community
surrounded by people
whose lives were
entirely inexplicable to us?
Our political leaders speak of
crossing party lines
to achieve greater unity!
What they have achieved
is still a mystery
Is there a need
to pass over
the invisible lines
between our homes
and neighbours
to attain unity?
In an age of
Cyber communities
we often don’t know
the people
who live our next door?
Probably we don’t need
to doze over at their place
All it might take is
just a knock at the door
