He's none other than Gangaram, right?
Know him well and it's my delight-----
To tell something about his goodness;
An inky-dark guy with an owl-like face!
Academics next...... Oh! Par excellence!
No,no,not his degree,but perseverance!
Nineteen attempts at a stretch........
Matriculation degree is yet to fetch!
Monetary status? I know it well.....
Just two square-meals, no more to tell!
Siblings? Shame! Shame! All in vain!
One short-tempered,another insane!
Third one is the jewel in the crown,
For faking currency,imprisoned in town!
The youngest one is a Tabla-player,
Gets five bucks monthly in a theatre here!
Gangaram suffers round the year,
From Jaundice and lever-pain severe.
But he belongs to a royal family!
Direct descendant of 'Kansa'-dynasty!
That famous ShyamLahiri of Banogram-
Is somehow related to Gangaram!
However, it's a nice match.......
A groom like him is rare to catch!
N.B. Posta is a place in North-Kolkata, famous for whole-sale-market.

সতপাত্র (সুকুমার রায়)
শুনতে পেলুম পোস্তা গিয়ে
তোমার নাকি মেয়ের বিয়ে?
গঙ্গারামকে পাত্র পেলে?
জানতে চাও সে কেমন ছেলে?
মন্দ নয় সে পাত্র ভালো
রঙ যদিও বেজায় কালো।
তার উপরে মুখের গঠন,
অনেকটা ঠিক প্যাচার মতন।
বিদ্যে-বুদ্ধি? বলছি মশায়,
ধন্যি ছেলের অধ্যবসায়!
উনিশটিবার ম্যাট্রিকে সে,
ঘায়েল হয়ে থামলো শেষে।
বিষয়-আশয়? গরীব বেজায়,
কষ্টে স্রষ্টে দিন চলে যায়।
মানুষ তো নয় ভাইগুলো তার,
একটা পাগল,একটা গোয়ার,
আরেকটি সে তৈরী ছেলে,
জাল করে নোট গেছেন জেলে!
কনিষ্ঠটি তবলা বাজায়,
যাত্রাদলে পাচটাকা পায়।
গঙ্গারাম তো কেবল ভোগে,
পিলের জ্বর আর পাণ্ডুরোগে;
কিন্তু তারা উচ্চঘর,
কংসরাজের বংশধর।
শ্যাম লাহিড়ী বনগ্রামের?
কি যেন হয় গঙ্গারামের----
যা হোক, এবার পাত্র পেলে,
এমনকি আর মন্দ ছেলে!
