Climate Change,Global Warming–Methane Gas.

April 29th, 2007 | by drsudhirp

The total quantity of solid waste generated in India as a whole is approximately > 300 million metric tonnes per day and based on that it emits approximately > 4600 MT/day of Methane.
Climate has and will always vary for natural reasons. However, human activities are increasing significantly: consequently  the concentration of some gases in the atmosphere, called greenhouse gases which tend to warm the earth surface also increases. One of the impacts of urbanisation with a global dimention is the emission of methane. Concentration of methane in the atmosphere is increasing rapidly. Methane being one of the potent green house gases, with its global warming potential being 21 times more than that of CO2, appropriate actions should be taken to reduce its emission thereby reducing the risk to the environment.
