BARACK OBAMA AND THE REST OF US!

In: Other Categories

It is no longer news that Barack Hussein Obama has won the United State of America’s presidential election( Nov 4, 2008).
In so doing, he has been elected the 44th President of the United States of America.
Interestingly, he has also made history as the first African American to be elected to that office.
He is being celebrated all over the world for that feat, for the progress he made, and for the change he preached and propagated.

Like McCain said, African Americans and indeed black people all over the world must be proud of him and the accomplishment. Indeed, to Africans, he is their homeboy. There has been a lot of emotional connectedness, tears of joy ( Rev Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, etc shed tears of joy at Obama’s acceptance speech), several millions of people all over the world have been obamacised (for your information, obama has entered the English dictionary) and so on an so forth.
But beyond all these, what does the victory of Obama represent?

To the Americans, he represents an aspiration for change. Their economy is in shambles, no thanks to the several wars they are fighting (including Iraq, Afghanistan). There is also the issue of mortgage failures, credit crunch, collapse of banks and large corporations, as well as the global financial crisis which started from them. The Americans expect change, and their hope for change lives on with the election of Obama. Whether that change will come is another issue all together.

To non-Americans, they expect a more democratic America, one that listens and consults. They expect better inter-governmental relationships and more opportunities.

Bye and large, Obama represents hope of a better tomorrow, an accomplishment of a dream, the desire for change, a boldness to aspire for something great and achieve it against all odds. I would not be surprised if parents outside the United States of America begin to name their newly born babies Obama or Barack.

The youths of the world will surely be energised by Obama’s victory. He was able to use his gift of oratory to achieve his destiny despite the fact that he did not have “experience”. Like the Holy Book said, ” a man’s gift makes way for him”.
To the religious, the victory of Obama is not ordinary. It is a dispensation, a statement from the Almighty.
I can see a lot of our youths pursuing their dreams and realising it.
I can see a lot of people rising up in the countries of Africa and holding their governments accountable, asking for change.

Apart from the emotional connectedness, a lot of people in Africa are also asking whether the victory of Obama will make it easier for them to get a visa to the United States, put more food on their table, make their lives better? The answer may be an obvious no.

In his speech, Barack Obama explained that the change we need is not the victory (winning the election), but that all must begin to work to see that change actualised. There in lies the change we need. We must make it happen ourselves.

Moving to the next level

In: Other Categories

We all want to move to the next level.

We are not satisfied with the status quo.

We all  have a craving for more.

We all want to aspire to greater heights.

We all want to achieve more.

Hence the pasture is always greener out there.

How do we get to the next level?

I guess, it is by implementing our ideas, desires, and aspirations.

Move. Act now. The journey to the next level starts with a step forward.

Take that positive step today and you may be closer to the next level than you think.

A cry for advice!

In: Education & Reference

I need your advice.

I am about to commence a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in an undecided area of Management Sciences.

I am ready to face the challenges and tasks of conducting research in this area, but my major concern is that I want to do something that will affect lives positively and contribute immensely to knowledge.

Accordingly, I want to use this medium to seek advice and suggestions on the reseach interest or proposal. Which area of management sciences do you think or suggest I should conduct my research on.

Thanks, while I await your response.

It is the dawn of a new year—2008.

2007 is gone for good and will never be seen again.

The events of 2007 may have been gone for good, but the memories and effects may

linger or stay with us.

The expectations of 2007 may have been met fully, partially, or not at all.

Whatever be the case, we have entered a new year.

The year is full of hopes and expectations.

I cannot begin to list these expectations because they may be too many. But we know

them, and we can also expect more.

However good our expectations may be, it may amount to nothing if we don’t begin now to

act.

So let’s expect more, act more, and achieve more.

2008 is replete with expectations. Achieve yours!

Again, I am just wondering.

We all have expectations.

One of them is that once we get married, we will live happily forever.

What happens if it doesn’t work that way?

An example is what do you do if your wife or husband begins to cheat on you?

In that case, it becomes difficult to live happily ever after.

What do you do if expectations begin to fail or derail?

why we should be wealthy!

In: Money & Finance

Over the past few moments, I have been thinking of this.

Why should we bother ourselves to make it in life, to accummulate wealth, to be rich?

Why should we engage in a never-ending battle to make money and overcome poverty?

Why should we strive to be successful?

Why should we bother to compete and strive to win always?

Are those  pursuits not in vain?

In the final analysis, do they not add up to vanity?

Yet we keep striving from generation to generation, as if it is a rat race.

Is it simply to be successful?

Or just to earn the glory of winning and accomplishment?

Or to fulfil the urge or desire for comfort, for a better life?

Is it to fulfil our purpose, to affect the lives of others, to leave behind an enduring legacy?

There must be a purpose for all these!

I want to lend my voice to the last summation.

The enduring reason why we accumulate wealth is to distribute the surplus to those who need it?

Yes , that makes some sense? That’s my summation. You can tell me yours.

I have observed that people see things from one perspective while others see from several. The ability to view things in the right perspective is key to successful relationships.

WHO SAYS YOU ARE NOT A WINNER?

In: Jobs & Careers

Most people are what they think they are!

Better still, most people are what they believe they are!

Put differently, most people end up becoming what they intended to become.

But others are moulded by what other people think they are.

Yet some people float, without any vision or objective and end up becoming what they never

expected to become…..failures.

Today, I am reaching out to people who have been written off in the past as failures,

who have been branded as never-do-well as a result of some situations or circumstances, or

history or past experiences.

And they are dejected, or confused.

Who says you cannot make it again?

Who says you cannot be a winner?

Who says  you cannot succeed?

Who says there is no hope or second chance, or future for you?

You can still bounce back. You can make it. You can live life to the fullest.

It starts from within you. Believe it. Believe your self. Determine to succeed. Decide to

act, and then truly act. Seek help if needed. And go for success.

When you wake up in the morning and decide to go to a particular spot (e.g a school), most

of the time, you end up getting there. It is simply because you planned and worked towards

reaching that destinatination.

It is the same thing with your life or career or business.

Go for it. You can make it!

Ugbo.

The sun rises and sets

the bird sings and rests

The moon shines in its colour

The man glows in his splendour.

In your time you did more

To stand in the gap for others

To bestow humility and kindness to others

To affect lives positively the more

Shocked by your passing to glory

On angels wings soar

May The Almighty grant you

His peace as you rest

A tale of contradictions

 1 Ratings
In: Fantasy

This may surprise you !

But I guess you already know.

Things exist in opposites.

Good and Bad.

Day and Night.

Birth and Death.

Real and Imagined.

The ugly and the beautiful.

Lack and abundance.

The object and its shadow.

Black and White.

Me and You.

They occur in opposites so we can appreciate them more.

They contradict themselves so that we can notice the contradictions.

And from them have tales to tell.

They make life worth living and give us sometime to aspire for, something to hope for.

Most importantly, they give us an opportunity to make a choice.

And thereby face the consequences of our actions or inaction.
