White Spiced Coffee

September 15th, 2007

3 cups whole milk
1 cup whole organic coffee beans, 1/2 cup lightly cracked
1-1/2 3" cinnamon sticks, broken
4 whole green cardamom pods
1/2 cup honey
2 Tbsp. rum

TIP: Use a heavy-bottomed skillet to crack coffee beans and spices. Place in plastic bag before crushing.

Place the milk and crushed coffee beans in a saucepan. Heat the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat about 7 minutes. Immediately remove from the heat and let the beans steep in the milk for 15 minutes. Strain the coffee mixture and transfer to a jar of a blender. Discard the crushed coffee beans. Add the cinnamon sticks, cardamom and honey to the steeped milk and blend on high speed until the spices are coarsely ground, about 30 seconds. Strain the liquid back into the saucepan and discard the ground spices. Rewarm the spiced coffee over medium-high heat until the liquid is hot and steaming, add rum. Pour into warmed mugs and serve hot.

FLOWERS…FLOWERS

September 14th, 2007

I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.

People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.

LEARN TO BE FRIENDS

September 13th, 2007

Friends are those rare people who ask how we are and then wait to hear the answer.

A friend is a hand that is always holding yours, no matter how close or far apart you may be. A friend is someone who is always there and will always, always care. A friend is a feeling of forever in the heart.

One measure of friendship consists not in the number of things friends can discuss, but in the number of things they need no longer mention.

A Broken Heart

September 12th, 2007

You promised us so much in life
and you gave us none,
you told us we were special
and then you chose to run,
run away from us you did and
it wasn’t only one time
you decided not to care for us
and all you did was lie
lie about the drugs,
the presents and the money
you acted like you cared for us,
and said that you were coming
coming down to see us
because you missed us so,
saying that you "loved us and would never let us go"
well, let us go u did and it has been eight years,
you never tried to call us and it has brought us to tears,
how come you weren’t there when we were sad?
you left us there to rot! can you see why we’re mad?
mad at you? yes, for never being there, you never took the time to show us that you cared
we were little girls how could you do that to us?
you pushed us out of your life,
all because of drugs
well we are all grown up now
and we understand that you were never a mommy you never lended a hand
a hand to help us up, when we were falling down, you never gave us hope, for you to turn around
turn around from who you were and what you wanted to be
you thought drugs were more important because they set you free
free from you worries, and free from you life
you could have been so great,
you could have been daddy’s wife
but now that is behind us,
and because of your choices,
all that you hear from us comes from our voices
you could have had so much more, as to see us every year
you threw it all away and you didn’t shed a tear
we really do love you, but just wanted you to know
that all this hell you put us through will never let us go
broken hearts are crying out for you to see, see that we love you, but, a mommy’s what we need.

LOVE JOKES

September 11th, 2007

It was their fifth anniversary, and Al and Alice had just returned from the movies.

Alice was feeling romantic. ‘Will you love me when my hair has turned to silver?’ she crooned.

‘Why not?’ Al grunted. ‘Didn’t I love you through four other shades?’

STRESS STRESS STRESS

September 11th, 2007

What Is Stress?

Stress is a feeling that’s created when we react to particular events. It’s the body’s way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness.

The events that provoke stress are called stressors, and they cover a whole range of situations - everything from outright physical danger to making a class presentation or taking a semester’s worth of your toughest subject.

The human body responds to stressors by activating the nervous system and specific hormones. The hypothalamus </teen/your_body/body_basics/endocrine.html> signals the adrenal glands to produce more of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol and release them into the bloodstream. These hormones speed up heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and metabolism. Blood vessels open wider to let more blood flow to large muscle groups, putting our muscles on alert. Pupils dilate to improve vision. The liver releases some of its stored glucose to increase the body’s energy. And sweat is produced to cool the body. All of these physical changes prepare a person to react quickly and effectively to handle the pressure of the moment.

This natural reaction is known as the stress response. Working properly, the body’s stress response enhances a person’s ability to perform well under pressure. But the stress response can also cause problems when it overreacts or fails to turn off and reset itself properly.

Good Stress and Bad Stress

The stress response (also called the fight or flight response) is critical during emergency situations, such as when a driver has to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. It can also be activated in a milder form at a time when the pressure’s on but there’s no actual danger - like stepping up to take the foul shot that could win the game, getting ready to go to a big dance, or sitting down for a final exam. A little of this stress can help keep you on your toes, ready to rise to a challenge. And the nervous system quickly returns to its normal state, standing by to respond again when needed.

But stress doesn’t always happen in response to things that are immediate or that are over quickly. Ongoing or long-term events, like coping with a divorce or moving to a new neighborhood or school, can cause stress, too. Long-term stressful situations can produce a lasting, low-level stress that’s hard on people. The nervous system senses continued pressure and may remain slightly activated and continue to pump out extra stress hormones over an extended period. This can wear out the body’s reserves, leave a person feeling depleted or overwhelmed, weaken the body’s immune system, and cause other problems.

Love Poems

September 8th, 2007

Goodbye
Love and Sad poems by Malissa Sue Cooper

I look into your eyes, your heart, your soul -
Were you really loving me or lying?
My love goes deeper than I ever imagined it could
or even would.

Love is a part of life, I know.
So is the pain and the sorrow,
along with the smiles, and the joys.
My life will be forever changed
because I loved you.

It seemed as though my world was falling apart,
along with my heart.
No longer will I let your memory hurt me.
I will move on with my life,
no longer letting you be a part of me.

SHORT POEM

September 8th, 2007

Generations

A tear leading to a smile, and then, relief
New life of my blood, I cannot believe;

Daughter bears child
The world around us merrily beguiled;

Eyes of mine, hair of hers
A loving face-From your grand-mothers’;

In you our dreams do grow
The Lion of Judah in your blood does flow;

Where you are from child?-Do not forget
From this generation and to the next;

LOVE LIFE OF FAMOUS PEOPLE

September 6th, 2007

LOVE Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798) was the 18th-century version of a platinum status player. The famous Venetian adventurer, writer and social icon was notorious for his prolific womanizing, and the boasting that followed hot on its heels. His weapons of choice were charm, lies, and even intimidation, which led to him being banned from certain countries (the 18th-century equivalent of girldon’tdatehim.com.) His actual “number” remains unknown, but in his autobiography, Histoire de Ma Vie, Casanova cites 122 sexual conquests

 LOVE

Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) The Crooner was so much more than just the voice that made (makes?) women swoon. Ole Blue Eyes himself may have been a bit of a tramp. Despite that Italian mobster charm, he worked his bad boy appeal without getting too grimy. The secret to his seduction? An impulsive romantic streak which enabled him to sweep more than a few starlets off of their kitten-heels and into hasty marriages. Who doesn’t love a man who loves commitment?

 LOVE

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) owned the Presidential Suite at Hotel Seduction. Though the slick willy of the ‘60s kept his personal life under wraps as much as possible, his torrid affairs and infamous escapades, with the likes of Marilyn Monroe, eventually leaked out. America’s 35th President was a sweet talker, and though he reportedly lacked the physical virility he exuded, the manner in which he wielded his power drew many admirers. Though, cue the collective sigh: Cheat on Jackie O., how could you?
