Heart of Gold

August 30th, 2007 | by Suparn@

HeartAs I walked about my beautiful, royal palace,
Was my head held high with honour and grace.
Though enjoying every luxury of life,
Something pierced it like a sharp iron knife.
What was this great thing,
That wealth alone could not bring?
My question was answered by none but me,
As through the window I looked as far as I could see,
In the fields the children play,
Faces enlightened with joy and gay
They danced about to their hearts content,
Holding hands as home they went.
I too wish I was among them, playing with glee,
One of them as free as can be

A tear glistened in my eye,
And I heaved a huge heavy sigh,
I looked around my room again,
Where on the bed the purest silk was lain,
I then understood that it was his heart that made a man,
And not his gold,
And then knew that I had everything,
But yet nothing.
