Everything proceeds from the divine power of almighty God, from whom all goodness emanates.
Michel Nostradamus

(image and information source
http://www.world-mysteries.com/awr_5.htm)
His followers say he predicted the Great Fire of London (1666), the French Revolution, the birth and rise to power of Hitler, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger.
A man from the 16th Century should NOT have been able to write aboutthese 20th Century things:
* Hitler.
* U.S. & its Eagle symbol.
* Free America to the west.
* Napoleon.
* Mussolini.
* Franco.
* Roosevelt.
* Pasteur.
* Atlantis.
* U.S., French & Russianrevolutions.
* WWI &WWII.
* The atomic bomb.
*Air warfare; ‘flying boats and galleys.’
*The submarine.
* Motors& antennae.
* Man-made mountains.
Speaking of the antichrists, we know that anti christ does not mean people from other religion. It means some one who is unrighteous and does not tread the path of Good; the first one being Napoleon and Hitler , the second anti christ.
Reading Nostradamus again and again is so stunning as we compare it with our own times and find how true it is. He predicts raining fire(bombs) even during his own times.
Did he predict a III world war is the question as the quatrain says-
From brick to marble, the walls will be converted,
Seven and fifty peaceful years:
Joy to mankind, the aqueduct renewed,
Health, abundant fruits, joy and honey-making times.
- Quatrain 10:89
(http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa050602a.htm)
Interpreters say that after the II world war got over in 1945, we have had only peace all these years. Is Seven and fifty 75 or 750? If it is 75 then the time is up by 2020. when the III world war will bring the end of a certain country.
But some interpreters have predicted the war to come as early as 2012, given the kind of situation that we are in.

Some interpreters say that Saddam Husein or Osama Bin Laden could be the Third Anti christ.
But Husein is not alive and Bin Laden is in hiding. I had a brief doubt that George Bush could be the one. His term is over alright , neither can his aggression on Afghanistan or Iraq be counted as a culmination of the Third World war. It has only impoverished America and demoralized its people.
Many referred to the fall of pentagon and WTC as the beginning of the III world war
In the City of God there will be a great thunder,
two brothers torn apart by chaos,
while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb.
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning.
But look at the verse. We don’t have any great leader having succumbed to any bomb, nor two brothers. The fortress has not endured, it has actually fallen apart nor do we have any brothers falling dead. Whether the twin towers could be taken for the “brothers” is disputable.
What ever it may be, one thing is clear, the third world war will be the anger of the world against the King of Terror, which it will try to vanquish.
Personally, I strongly disagree to USA being called the City of God. Indians of the past used to jocularly call it, the Pathalalogam(Ground Beneath).
Prosperity is nothing. Tolerance, love, acceptance make a nation a City of God, or the following of many Faiths or many Gods (as the multiple icons of worship in hindu religion; money matters little.
America should be New City or City Liberty, England should be the Maritime City while the City of the Gods is undoubtedly,India.
India’s aggression on Pakistan which is long overdue could cause the inevitable to happen too, couldn’t it? And when it does, there is a possibility of getting global support. So it becomes the Third World war.
About America the verse is that “The Citie Libertie will be made servile” he says-
The city of liberty made servile:
Made the asylum of profligates and dreamers.
The King changed to them not so violent:
From one hundred become more than a thousand.
It is more understandable that USA will lose its value as a superpower pretty soon rather than being the harbinger of a III world war.
As the quatrains are purposely vague, what it is we will know only in retrospect.

Vida, The unique thing about Nostradamus so called prediction is that he spoke in verses which were totally ambiguous and unclear. We have only been able to relate to the words after the incident happened and that too certain similarities were found which some conspiracy theorists maintain were his predictions. I wouldnt want to read too much into those words. It is the law of TAO that there is more good in the world than evil and nature takes its own course otherwise we would have been destroyed long ago. Look at the way mankind has been treating our planet. Excellent Post Though. Rgds Raj

It is coincidence or just happened that I saw a news today on cnn about threat of biological war in 2012 ! So predictions really looking true in current scenario. In current recession and increased intolerance and violence,no one would be surprised, if world has to face Third world war. And then the law of nature “Fittest will survive…..”. Nice post.

There is no doubt that Nostradamus’ predictions have come right over the centuries. But his quatrains are so cryptic that it just needs a little imagination to link what he says to events that had occured before him, during his time, and till this very day as well.
Certainly hope he’s wrong about WW-III, coz’ this is the age of the ‘atom’ and a few nuclear bombs hurled around our planet will certainly spell doom for the world.
The Mayan Civilization’s calendar finishes in 2012… and very abruptly too. Predictions written in their books have also come true since the time they wrote it, almost 4000 years back.

Interesting thoughts. The line I liked or agreed with most was:
Whatever it may be, one thing is clear, the third world war will be the anger of the world against the King of Terror, which it will try to vanquish.

His foresight is very frightening…The world is at a very precarious and dangerous stage currently and since many of his predictions have come true one can only wait and watch…

Good analysis but so many assumptions and beliefs. Corollary drawn from various coincidents to prove Nostradamus as a semi-God !!! A musalman can’t be an anti-Christ. It’s a precondition to believe in all prophets including Isha (AS) to be musalman. If we furnish a list of anti-Christ we should start from Charles Darwin, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Marx, Engel, Lenin, Mao & now their followers. Undoubtedly Pakistan is the breeding ground of terrorism. But my point is, so many Prophets came neither one of them could predict the exact time of “Qayamat” and still we r after a common man “Nostradamus”. How shame ??

hi kazi,I can’t imagine Napoleon to be antichrist. In fact I am quite fascinated with his persona. I think Mussolini would suit better. BTW,Kazi, predicting the future anyone can do. So many sants and sadhus have predicted the worsening times in kaliyuga, the three wars and the re-emergence of the glory in India. So it is just any one with clairvoyance, telepathy or high strung extra sensory capacities who could tell about the future. Even dogs can sense the dead spirits. u know that, don’t u?

Perhaps I will go on a expedition and reach some place on the eve of 2012 and celebrate this Ending of this World. A Year 2012 perhaps will be a year to bring in just the opposite, so start thinking from now, what to do with your wealth, its better you pass on to me for safety. If all has to END then why have fondness for wealth too, I am sure you will take this seriously, and pass it all to me….Have Fun, I had my share, reading your page.

A third world war is probably impossible for several reasons … but there will be much undeclared war operated by terrorist ..or terrorist .mainly from Islamic countries .because….in all those isalamic countries lack legitimate administrative system….that will end automatically in course of time or will be rubed out by some body ….so don’t worry …be happy writer….

Hope the war does not happen, both are nuclear powers…..just imagine what CAN happen. A war often does not solve issues, the root cause remains, while ppl die. If war is the only option for defending the motherland….then so be it, but only after the peaceful means have been explored.
Nice read.

India s defensive postures and elay in taking on the jehadis/mujahideens had cost India dearly in terms of loss of life and damage to properyIts time those in power contemplated about going on the offensive and destroy those bloody camps which are the breeding grounds for these misguided elements.That should teach a lesson to pakistan not to meddle in Indian affairs and mind their bussiness.World opinion is in our favour and this is the time to strike at the heart of evil thats been nagging us all these days.and see that its totaly exterminated.If we are not going to do it now ,when we ,would prove that we too have within us the capacity and power to strike at will,at those mischief makers.And also tell the world dont think just because we are peace loving nation it doesnt mean,that any body can take us for granted.And that we have the where with all to take care of ourself.

Nice researched article. We have to accept, in the past, Michel Nostradamus’s predictions have been proved true. As you have noted when India takes a decision to humble Pakistan then there is a possibility of world war III. But, since Indians are generally soft natured and peace loving people that extreme step will be taken after following “Sama”,”Dana”,”Beda”,and “Danda” steps. By the time it will be 2012. We fondly hope that every thing is solved in the first step itself.

As a matter of fact nothing is easy, at the moment India has different task on hand, out of many, security would remain their outmost priority as I on one hand perceive a much bigger and massive attack in the days to come. The Terrorist will not allow this game of creating misunderstanding to be over soon, thus permitting a benefit to slip from their withhold. If you ask me, what has to be done, as a Prime Minister? Well with consultation of all the Armed Forces Chief, order to attack all the terrorist camp in POK, with pin point meticulousness, come back and sit silently, analogous modus operandi of “ The mossad ” of Israel. Let the world react then, we are still not late, when, The American Security Chief has confirmed the involvement of Lashkar-e-toiba……If you read the indication, America is wanting to take advantage here, it wants all of these training camps be attacked with this disclosure…..[ The World Media says that ] but still, if this exposure is of benefit to us…then why not… I think this is the perfect time.

A nice and meaningful post. What the future holds in store for us, only god knows. But in the current scenario, there are certain stern steps to be taken for sure. Either the government can take these steps right now and avoid a biological holocaust in the future or, prepare themselves for it.
Let’s see what is the option that they choose.

So, you want the whole world to join hands and fight terrorism. Will this not result in a World War III ? I am at my wits end, as to why you want the Third World War, is it perhaps you want Nostradamus Prophecy, finally to become a certainty, but while you have said this Please don’t forget, 2012 AD, will be a day when you will be transiting all your riches to me, so you have to be a little careful, please save more now so that a better chunk is endorsed to me…….with this in mind I too look forward to 2012 with uneven breaths……Oh! Yes, nothing will stop WORLD WAR III now.

……@ Writer…….Does this not mean, that Pakistan is teasing us with their ” Nuclear Bomb ” , do you really mean, we should submit and surrender to their nuclear capability and remain helpless through out our existence and surrender to their whimsical act of terrorism for ever……Please give it a bigger thought, strong action is required……if we don’t do it now then we will never be able to come out of this problem……secondly there will be no World War III isn’t it ?……I don’t think you want this……or your accumulated wealth has become very dearer to you which you don’t want to part with me now……… Happy days.

GREAT POST DO VISIT MY BLOG PLS:
•SUPER STAR RAJESH KHANNA -
An actor par excellence
On his sixty fourth birthday, I may highlight some inner capabilities of the FIRST SUPER STAR OF INDIA as a most refined actor, rather, an actor par excellence, which I have experienced for the last four decades through his outstanding performances. These are in addition to his classic facial expressions which emerge effortlessly on his face and the style and arrogance brought by him on the silver screen. The rigorous use of his voice to communicate a character’s lines and express emotion, which he achieved through attention to diction and projection through correct breathing and articulation. It has also achieved by him through the tone and emphasis that an real actor puts on words. Characterization/Physicalisation of a role in order to create a believable character for the audience and to use the acting space appropriately and correctly. Use of gesture to complement the voice, interact with other actors and to bring emphasis to the words in a play, as well as having symbolic meaning.

Could be or could be not…. You see, his predictions were so alembicated that we can find a multitude of senses. But this is what we like in fact: a play of mind, an a certain feeling of assuredness “I know that but I don’t realise”…By the other hand…I try to write few stories.Could you spend few minutes with them?

Vida,
That was a totally unexpected topic you picked. Give or take credit goes to Nostradamus. Maybe he had a farseeing sight maybe he was a very great perceiver of humanistic feelings. George Orwell also wrote a novel a good many years back that predicted many a scientific instruments that were not in vogue. I’m not sure but perhaps the book was titled 1984.
But, such things were mentioned in our epics thousands of years back.
When an incident happens they twist the words of N and relate them to the present situation.
N has also stated that in the coming few years India will be attacking upon Japan and the 3rd world war will start. India will again come out as the Philosophical Guru of the World. The Maya civilisation also states sucha prophecy. Let’s just wait and watch.Best wishes.

Dear WRITER UMBRELLA22, HANEEF, SMART, LOVELY, RAJIV RAHUL OSHO ,DAKSHINIMOOR. WHO CONSIDER ISALM IS A TERROR.
i THINK RESHMA IS AKING MANY QUESTION BUT U ALL HAVE NO ANSWER REGARDING U R RELEGION A SORT OF ESCAPASIM
I think the topic name “Terrorism has no religion ”should be changed how could be this name be suitable when you found a religion “Islam” that is a cause of terrorism. See In Islam there in racisim , no low cast or upper cast no color or creed no slaves no devadasis(An open prostitute centre for having sex) etc I know even if I explain everthing here it is like “RECITING VEDAS IN THE EARS OF BUFFALOS” OOPS SOORY BUFFOLAS ARE YOU SACRED ANIMAL SORRY NO IT IS THE COWS. JUST TELL ME WHAT IS THE THEME OF MAHABHARAT AND RAMAYAN ?????
Religion is just one of the many tools used by people what could be more powerful than a religion if compared to tools. Islam is a religion to be followed what Quran , Prophet Muhammed and his followers taught. Islam is not a religion to be followed for who is behind September 11 attacks ,or those who are behind Mumbai attack or the terrorist who fight in the name of Jihad. People who don’t know what is the exact meaning of Jihad to support and claim Relegion Islam is full of terror.
“ISLAM IS ALSO AGAINST TERRORISM AGAINST KILLING OF INNOCENT PEOPLE” Watching tv doesnot show how the muslim feels about terrorism there are many programmes held by muslim who show the protest against terrorism. If you dont understand here I am an Muslim “Islam does not support terrorism or killing of innocent people”
As Islam means peace. It fast spreading religion in the world becoz people who learn about Islam and judges with true judgment will realize what is Islam. Yes as Reshma said Jihad is an oxymoron term used by the international media to describe certain people” As Jihad has nothing to do with Terrorism”
Jihad is one of the words that have been misused due to misunderstanding its true meaning. The word “Jihad” is derived from the Arabic word “Jahd” which means fatigue or the word “Juhd” which means effort. A Mujahid is he who strives in the Cause of Allah and exerts efforts which makes him feel fatigued. The word “Jihad” means exerting effort to achieve a desired thing or prevent an undesired one. In other words, it is an effort that aims at bringing about benefit or preventing harm.
Jihad can be observed through any means and in any field whether material or moral. Among the types of Jihad are struggling against one’s desires, the accursed Satan, poverty, illiteracy, disease, and fighting all evil forces in the world.
There are many religious texts that refer to these types of Jihad. Among the forms of Jihad is defending life, property or honor. Those who die while engaging in Jihad are considered to be martyrs, as confirmed by Hadith.
You people are also a “Terrorist” in one hand by misguiding the people or twisting the words or matter related to Islam unknowing and creating hatred toward Islam. Today many non muslims in India is working in Middle East countries (which is known to be a Islamic religion) and earning their living , earning high salary, high positions etc. Which shows Islam is peace loving religion.
See what this people have to say abt Islam the religion of Prophet Muhammed?? They are not like you people they are learned accepted by the world. This people have intention to know the truth and had an intention to judge fairly. Unless like you and your blogs “Little Knowledge” and ending up judging as you know everything.
.Prophet Muhammad guidance covers all walks of life whelther it is social life , knowledge and learning , politic and government , Human rights and relations, hygiene ,commerce and economy, law and justice
Here are some well know and educated person who wrote about Muhammed(pbuh) who was not an educated person.
1.According George Bernard Shaw in Book (The Geniune Islam, Vol1 No.8 1936) “I have always held the religion of Muhammed in high estimation because wonderful vitality. It the only religion which appears to me to possess that assimilation capacity to change the phase of existence, which can make itself appeal every age.
If a man like him were to assume dictatorship of modern world he would succeeds in solving problems in that way would bring much needed peace and happiness.
I have studied him – the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti Christ he must be called “ The humanity of Saviour”
2. Micheal H. Hart in this book ( The 100. A ranking of the most influential person in history ,New York 1978 P 33) – He ranked Mohammed first who contributed toward the benefit and uplift of Mankind. “ My choice of Muhammed to lead the list of the world most influential person may surprise some reader and may be questioned by the other but he is the only man who was supremely successful in both the religion and secular level.
3. Prof Ramakrishna Roa(Book Muhammed the Prophet)
“ The personality of Muhammed , it is the most difficult to get in to the whole truth of it . Only a glimpse of it I can catch . What a dramatic succession of picturesque of scenes. The Muhammed the prophet , The Muhammed the warrior, The Muhammed the business man , The Muhammed the statesman, The Muhammed the orator, The Muhammed the reformer, The Muhammed the refuge of orphans, The Muhammed the judge, The Muhammed the saint. All these magnificient roles, in all these dept of humanactivies he is like a hero.”
“Cirumstances change , but the Prophet of god did not change,in Victory or in defeat, in or power or adversity in affluence or indigence he is the same man, disclosed the same character”
4. Thomas Carlyle (In his “ Hero’s and Hero worship)
“How one man, single handedly could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins in to a most powerful and civilized nation in less than 2 decades”
“ The lies( Western Slander) which well meaning zeal has heaped round this man( Muhammed) are disgraceful to ourselves only.
“ A silent great soul, one of that who cannot but be earnest. He was to kindle the worl, the world Maker had orderes so”
5. Mahatma Gandhi: “ I want to know the best of one who holds today undisputed sway over the hearts of million mankind. I became more convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in Scheme of life.”
“It was the rigid simplicity , the utter self effacement of Prophet , the scrupulous regards for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers ,his intrepidity ,his fearless, his absolute trust in god and his own mission these and Not the SWORD carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle.
When I closed the 2nd vol(Of Prophet Muhammed Boiography) there was not more for me to read of the great life”
6.Alphonsen De lamartine (renowned Historian Book Historie De la Turquei , Paris 1854 Vol:II pp 276-277 “ If greatness of purpose, smallness of means and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius who could dare compare any great man in modern history with Muhammed?”
“Philospher, orator, apostle, legislature warrior, conqueror of ideas , restorer of rational true belief of a system of religion without images. The founder of twenty terrestrial empire and one spiritual empires that is Muhammed.”
“IS THERE ANY MAN GREATER THAN HE”
7. Prof.Hurgronje “The league of nations founded by the Prophet of Islam puts a principle of international unity and brotherhood on such a universal foundation as to show candle to other nation’s”
He continues “The fact is that no nations of the world can show a parallel to what Islam has done towards the realization of idea and league of Nation”
“It is not a claim of Muhammed(pbuh) followers but also the inescapable conclusion forced upon by a critical and unbiased history”
Sarojini Naidu(Ideals of Islam ,vide speeches and writing, Madras 1918 p.169 ) “ It was first religion which preached and practiced demoracy”
“ I have been struck over and over again by this indivisible unity of Islam that makes man instinctively a barrier”
8. Bos worth Smith “ He was……. Without a bodyguard , without a palace, without a fixed revenue. If ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by the right divine it was MUHAMMED, for he held all the power without instrument and without its support he cared not for his dressing of power. The simplicity his private life was in keeping with his public life.
9.Diwan Chandra Sharma (the Prophet of East , 1935 Calcutta pp12) “ Muhammed was a soul of kindness and his influence was felt and never forgotten by those around him”
What is this ’sword’ by which Islam spread?
It is the sword of truth, whose shine eliminates falsehood just like light wipes away darkness.
Has the sword gone blunt?
No, far from it.
It continues to pierce the heart of countless men and women even today — in spite of the relentless efforts by people with vested interests, who would like darkness to prevail, instead of the light of Islam.
Given below are the impressions of some people who were recently conquered by the same sword. They are from different countries, speak different languages and have different backgrounds. Their present addresses are also given. Perhaps you may like to ask them how it feels to be struck by the sword of truth!
1- Leopold Weiss (Mohammed Asad):

2- Ahmad Holt: British civil contractor
Traveled extensively in search of the Divine truth. Spent much time in search and comparative study of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

“The sword of Islam is not the sword of steel. I know this by experience, because the sword of Islam struck deep into my own heart. It didn’t bring death, but it brought a new life; it brought an awareness and it brought an awakening as to who am I and what am I and for what am I here?”
Present address: 23, Welland Garden Perivale, Middlesex UB6 8SZ , UK .
3- Bogdan Kopanksi (now Bogdan Ataullah Kopanski):

“When I was 12 years old I rejected the illogical and contradictory faith of the Church. Two years later in 1962, I was fascinated by the victorious struggle of the Algerian Muslim Mujaahideen against French colonialism. It was the first ‘arrow’ of Islam… in high school and the earliest days of my education in the university, I was a typical example of the ‘rebel generation’ of reds…My way to the truth of al-Quran was slow and unpaved…in 1974 I visited Turkey, I wrote my M.A. dissertation about Sultan and Caliph Suleiman Kanuni’s policy towards Polish Kingdom. There, I was hit by the most beautiful voice of mankind: Athaan, the call to prayer. My hair stood up. An unknown powerful force led me to an old masjid in Istanbul . There, old smiling Turkish, bearded men taught me wudhoo, (ablution), I confessed to tears the shahaadah (testimonies of faith) and I prayed my first salaah (prayer) at Maghrib…I swept out the rubbish ideologies …for the first time in my life, my mind was relaxed and I felt the pleasure of Allaah’s love in my heart, I was a Muslim…”.
Present address : 3013, Harrel, Drive 203 Grand Prairie Tx 75051 USA

(Embraced Islam in 1987).
“In Islam I found suitable replies to nagging queries arising in my mind with regard to the theory of creation, status of women, creation of the universe etc. The life history of the Holy Prophet, attracted me very much and made easy for me to compare with other world leaders and their philosophies.”
Present address: 1 Ashok Avenue , Rangarajapuram, Kodambakkam, Madras , India .
5- Herbert Hobohm: (Now Aman Hobohm)
German diplomat, missionary and social worker. An intellectual, who has been serving the German Diplomatic Mission in various parts of the world. Presently working as Cultural attache in German Embassy in Riyadh .

“I have lived under different systems of life and have had the opportunity of studying various ideologies, but have come to the conclusion that none is as perfect as Islam. None of the systems has got a complete code of a noble life. Only Islam has it; and that is why good men embrace it. Islam is not theoretical; it is practical. It means complete submission to the will of God.’
Present address: Cultural Attaché, German Embassy, PO Box 74 , Riyadh -11492, Saudi Arabia .
6- Cat Stevens: (Now Yousuf Islam).
British, formerly Christian, world famous pop singer.
(Embraced Islam in 1973).
“It will be wrong to judge Islam in the light of the behavior of some bad Muslims who are always shown on the media. It is like judging a car as a bad one if the driver of the car is drunk.”
Present address: Chairman, Muslim Aid, 3 Furiong Road , London , N7. UK
7- Ms. Margaret Marcus (Now Maryam Jamilah):
American, formerly Jewish. Essayist and journalist. Author of many books.
(Embraced Islam in 1962).
“The authority of Islamic morals and laws proceeds from Almighty God. Pleasure and happiness in Islam are but the natural by products of emotional satisfaction in one’s duties conscientiously performed for the pleasure of God to achieve salvation. In Islam duties are always stressed above rights. Only in Islam was my quest for absolute values satisfied. Only in Islam did I atlast find all that was true, good, beautiful and which gives meaning and directions to human life and death.”
Present address: c/o Mr. Mohammed Yusuf Khan, Sant Nagar, Lahore , Pakistan .
8- Wilfried Hofman: (Now Murad Hofman).
Ph.D (law) Harvard, German social scientist and diplomat. Presently German ambassador in Algiers .
(Embraced in Islam in 1980)
“For some time now, striving for more and more precision and brevity, I have tried to put on paper, in a systemic way, all philosophical truths, which, in my view, can be ascertained beyond reasonable doubt. In the course of this effort it dawned on me that the typical attitude of an agnostic is not an intelligent one; that man simply cannot escape a decision to believe; that the createdness of what exists around us is obvious; that Islam undoubtedly finds itself in the greatest harmony with overall reality. Thus I realize, not without shock, that step by step, in spite of myself and almost unconsciously, in feelings and thinking I have grown into a Muslim. Only one last step remained to be taken; to formalize my conversation. As of today I am a Muslim. I have arrived.”
Present address: Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, BP 664, Alger-gare , Algeria .
9- Cassius Clay (Now Mohamed Ali Clay):
American boxer (three times world heavyweight champion). Formerly Christian.
(Embraced Islam in 1965).
“I have had nice moments in my life. But the feeling I had while standing on Mount ‘Arafaat on the day of ‘Hajj’ (pilgrimage) , was the most unique. I felt exalted by the indescribable spiritual atmosphere there, as over a million and a half pilgrims invoked God to forgive them of their sins and bestow on them His choicest blessings. It was an exhilarating experience to see people belonging to different colors, races and nationalities, kings, heads of states and ordinary men from very poor countries all clad in two simple white sheets praying to God without any sense of either pride or inferiority. It was a practical manifestation of the concept of equality in Islam.”
(Speaking to the daily “Al-Madinah” Jeddah, 15, July 1989).
Present address: 1200 E, 49 St., Chicago , Ill 60615 .
These were the impressions of a few persons who had been struck by the sword of truth themselves.
As for the propaganda that it was the sword of steel (i.e. the force ) which was instrumental in the universal expansion of Islam, we give below remarks of some prominent non-Muslims refuting this baseless claim:
1- M K Gandhi:
“…….I become more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and his own mission. These, and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every trouble.”
Young India , 1924.
2- Edward Gibbon:
“The greatest success of Mohammed’s life was effected by sheer moral force without the stroke of a sword.”
History of the Saracen Empire, London , 1870.
3- A S Tritton :
“The picture of the Muslim soldier advancing with a sword in one hand and the Quran in the other quite false.”
Islam, London , 1951-page 21.
4- De Lacy O’Leary:
“History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims, sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.”
Islam at Crossroads, London . 1923-page 8.
5- KS Ramakrishna Rao:
“My problem to write this monograph is easier because we are not generally fed now on that (distorted) kind of history and much time need not to be spent on pointing out our misrepresentations of Islam. The theory of Islam and sword, for instance, is not heard now in any quarter worth its name. The principle of Islam that: ‘ there is no compulsion in religion’ is well known”.
Mohammed the Prophet of Islam, Riyadh 1989-page 4.
6- James A. Michener:
“No other religion in history spread so rapidly as Islam…The West has widely believed that this surge of religion was made possible by the sword. But no modern scholar accepts that idea, and the Quran is explicit in support of the freedom of conscience”.
Islam- The Misunderstood Religion, Readers’ Digest (American Edition ) May 1955.
7- Lawrence E Browne:
“Incidentally these well-established facts dispose off the ideas so widely fostered in Christian writings that wherever the Muslims went, they forced people to accept Islam at the point of the sword.”

Dear feroz,
Thank u for the exhaustive comment at my blog. My only protest at REshma’s blog was not to use abusive words in blog space but merely present points in a proper manner.
U asked me what is the theme of Rmayan-
It is obedience to the father’s words.
The theme of Mahabarath is-
Commitment to duty and right action.
If a war alone is the means to the establishment of righteousness, one should not shun it.
No where is the killing of innocent people or destruction of men and materials of civilian life recommended.
Any way, I am glad that Indian Muslims are disassociating themselves from terror groups and condemning them. It is very heartening.The more they do so, the more they will endear themselves to the general masses. I am sure of it.
If Islam has been the way to the salvation of souls then it must be a good religion too.I have no quarrel with it. I only advice the followers to speak with restraint and not get emotional. This is a forum for exchange of ideas and people will voice their opinions strongly, like umbrella. So do u have. I may disagree but I oughtn’t stop it.Cheers

I think war is not the solution India and Pakistan are inseparable they need to understand that they are being played by other forces which are not in sub-continent. Both countries share same culture and norms and their people do not want war they need peace and a Indian Union
